On Wednesday, the entrance gate at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam transformed into a crime scene after a stolen bus crashed into a barrier, causing traffic disruptions.
The incident was reported by the commander of the Air Force’s 36th Wing, Brig. Gen. Thomas Palenske shared a video of the event on Facebook.
Palenske explained that an individual, not affiliated with Andersen AFB, allegedly stole the bus and collided with one of the base’s barriers at the gate, leading to the area being designated as a crime scene for approximately one hour.
In a statement, Palenske also mentioned the diverse range of activities that take place at Andersen AFB, highlighting the base as an excellent place to experience the American spirit.
The video footage showed a yellow school bus being chased by the police before coming to a halt near the gate. Law enforcement officers then exited their vehicles and appeared to enter the bus.
Ariana Wilkinson, a spokesperson for the 36th Wing, emailed Stars and Stripes on Friday and said she had no additional information to provide.
The bus driver, identified by Guam police as Jesse Sablan Basaliso, attempted to enter Andersen and crashed into a concrete barrier at the gate following a police pursuit that began in the village of Dededo, according to Officer Berlyn Savella, a spokesperson for the Guam Police Department.
As of Friday, Basaliso, also known as Jesse Taitano Basaliso, remained in jail on suspicion of various charges, including motor vehicle theft, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, evading a police officer, driving without a license, resisting arrest, and obstructing government operations, as Savella stated.
